PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Welcome to the 2019-20 edition of the Doon International School Riverside Campus
magazine.
The purpose of education from time immemorial has been to prepare children for life.
However, in the last century, the primary focus of education has shifted to preparing
children for a livelihood. This trend is changing now and the Doon International School
Riverside Campus is one of the few schools where this is being followed in letter and
spirit. The open spaces, unmatched sports and performing arts infrastructure and various
events at DIS, are the actual classrooms for our students. While everyone focuses on the
current trends in education, DIS focuses on the future of its students.
Today, it’s not the academic excellence that matters, rather it’s the behavior coefficient of
an individual which marks the success of an individual.
A happy school is one where children learn experientially and not from books alone. We
strongly believe that each child is unique, with different capabilities and must be treated
with respect. Very often schools and parents are in the pursuit for Academic Excellence
alone, leading to a stressful learning environment for students. This is meaningless in the
21st century where the focus is turning towards personality and social traits. Teaching students to Think Global and Act Local is a step towards promoting Global
Citizenship.
The school magazine is a platform for staff and students to showcase their literary skills. It also includes all the events held during the academic year 2019-20. This magazine
is the dedicated efforts of the magazine committee who put in hours to plan, collect content and design the same. A special mention and message of gratitude to those
behind this edition of “Riveria”.
